Shalom.

We are at the end of 2011 and getting ready to usher in 2012. In retrospect, how have we done as Women on Mission?

I recently read that the mission field in North America is shifting. With 83 percent of the population now living in cities and metropolitan areas, the major population centers in the United States and Canada are vital mission fields for kingdom growth and influence. This was reported in the "On Mission" Winter 2011 issue.

This change is shown in our IMB Lottie Moon mission emphases. We are studying London, England.

As Christians we are to follow the Great Commission. We understand that Christ charged us to reach out and share His message of salvation. It sounds simple, but it can be very difficult and challenging in our busy world of today.

One way we can recharge is to join a Women on Mission Group or if you do not have one in your church, start one. This group will encourage women, teach them about missional life, educate them of all opportunities of ministry available, and minister to them in prayer and Bible study.

If you wish, I am eager to come and talk with you about beginning a group or providing a program for one of your groups.

This coming year please pray about where God wants you to serve in His kingdom work.

In Christ
Sherry

  • Take it Personally
    MY316 is based on your personal testimony
    and John 3:16

    I believe a great majority of people know the scripture John 3:16. This is a wonderful way of using what you already know – your story and John 3:16 – to share Jesus with your friends and family. The Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma has some helps in presenting your story.

    You can call the Outreach Team to request someone to come speak to your entire church about "My316.com Take it Personally." He will bring guides and visual helps to us.

    I encourage you to ask your pastor to do this. It is such an easy way for those of us who are shy, timid or don't know exactly what to say.

    Bro. Randall Adams has written a book "Following JESUS from the Beginning." It is a new believers study which will help you guide a new believer by telling what Jesus has done for you and see that Jesus loves them too.

    You can contact randalladams@bgco.org
    or call 405-942-3000.

    I will leave several flyers and an example of how to witness to a child at the KBA office.

    His Heart His Hands His Voice

    The International Mission study is spotlighting:
  • Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • Johannesburg, South Africa
  • HoChi Minh city, Vietnam
  • Madagascar
  • Brazil
  • Tibetans
  • Haiti
  • South Africa

    This is quite a list of areas to cover. It is an interesting study. Ask your pastor to be sure and show the DVD that goes with the study to your church.

    Our WMU study is on the city of London, England. I have learned a lot and am enjoying preparing for an English meal to be prepared for our congregation.

  • Prayer for Peace
    Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
    Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
    Where there is injury, pardon;
    Where there is doubt, faith;
    Where there is despair, hope;
    Where there is darkness, light;
    Where there is sadness, joy;

    O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
    To be understood as to understand To be loved as to love.

    For it is in giving we receive;
    It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
    And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

    Christmas Inspiration

    JESUS LIVED HIS FAITH

    In good times
    HE THANKED GOD.

    In hard times
    HE TRUSTED GOD.

    At all times
    HE PRAYED TO GOD.

    When He was tempted
    HE FOUND STRENGTH IN GOD.

    When He was hurting
    HE CRIED OUT TO GOD.

    When He was searching
    HE ASKED GOD TO GUIDE HIM.

    When people were struggling
    HE SHOWED THEM THE LIGHT.

    When He suffered rejection
    HE REMEMBERED GOD LOVED HIM.

    When it seemed everything was lost
    HE KNEW GOD WOULD MAKE ALL THINGS RIGHT.

    10 Family Traditions to Try
    1. Spend a Saturday in December shopping for toys to give to underprivileged children, and take the toys to a donation site.
    2. Go caroling in your community and invite people you meet along the way to your church.
    3. Read Luke 2:1-20 on Christmas Eve.
    4. Volunteer at a local nursing home or assisted living center.
    5. Host a Christmas party for residents at an assisted living home.
    6. Gather extended family for a potluck meal once a month.
    7. Establish a no-gadgets night. No television, electronic games, computers, and cell phones. Draw on your creativity for binding family unit together.
    8. Serve breakfast in bed to the family member having a birthday.
    9. Participate in a family missions trip one week each summer.
    10. Celebrate the beginning of summer vacation with a special family outing.

    CHURCH LADIES

    Women are more involved in church than any other American Christian demographic. Women make up more than half if church attendees (53 %) and have the widest presence in church involvement, with 60% of small group attendees and 57% of volunteers being women. This is from the Barna Group, June 28, 2010. So this should tell us we have the opportunity to change our community by reaching out and telling them Jesus loves them and showing it by our lifestyle.

    Day of Prayer Sunday January 29

    This is a day for all Southern Baptists to pray for spiritual renewal in our churches and spiritual awakening across North America.

    When Loving Gets Tough
     PRINT OUT the Bible verses and put them in a prominent viewing place.  REMEMBER all the grievances for which God and others have forgiven you.  PRAY asking God to give you the strength to love even when yours ha run out.  PRAISE God for the spiritual blessings He can bring when we choose to be obedient in love.

    2011-2012 Watchword
    "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."  Hebrews 12:1-2
