Shalom.

Our International Mission Study is on the Ivory Coast. This West Africa country borders the North Atlantic Ocean, between Ghana and Liberia. It has 3 seasons – warm and dry, hot and dry, and hot and wet. Child slavery is prominent here, especially in the cocoa fields. This is a great reason to purchase fair-trade chocolate when you can.

People respond to powerful stories, and our missionaries have learned the best method for reaching people in Ivory Coast is storying. In the US if you tell someone, "I want to tell you a story", nobody wants to hear it. If you say that here (in Ivory Coast), everyone gathers around.

Here are some fun facts about Ivory Coast.

1. The coastal cities along the Ivory Coast draw international tourists and immigrants. A wide range of cuisine includes French, Lebanese, and Syrian is available in these areas.
2. Tourists are offered knives and forks at mealtime. However Ivorians traditionally eat with their fingers, washing their hands in basins.
3. Peanuts are more than snacks in the region. Ivorians cook meat and fish in peanut oil and often grind peanuts with chilies and tomatoes for spicy meat accompaniments.

Simple Ivorian Taste:

"Meat options here are very diverse. Options include, beef, chicken, sheep, goat, seafood, snails, bats, bush rat, hedgehog, snake, biche (small deer-like), frogs, rabbits, horse, cats, and dogs. Africans waste nothing! Heads, feet, skin and bones are all eaten." Heather McAfee, Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast – Always a Jewel in God's Eyes
Once the most prosperous of West African states, the former French colony of Cote d'Ivolre was considered a jewel among African nations. Still blessed with beauty, the country has become what the US state department calls a "developing country", as it struggles to recover from multiple coups, civil war, and terrorist influence,

That is why this country is the missions study focus for 2014.

CONSIDER making your Christmas celebration a French-Ivorian theme.

Our women have a retreat at Falls Creek that we can attend each year. Did you know that men have a retreat there also? I just thought it was time us to publicize and push the men in our congregations to go. Below is some information and you can get more at www.bgco.org.

Don't you think if we go to be renewed, they should go, too?

ReWired April 24-25, 2015

Rewired is a high energy 24-hour, men’s conference. The focus is transforming the lives of men through a relationship with Jesus Christ. Rewired reaches men from all backgrounds and interests. It is what Keith Burkhart likes to call the different “Tribes of men". These tribes are what sets Rewired apart from other men’s conferences around the country. It is the only conference where you will see a biker, cowboy, hipster, gamer and business man standing together in worship as the greater tribe of Christian men. The unifying force that brings thest men together is threefold: First, their love for Christ and their desire to be men of God who influence the world. Second, to find the right next step or direction for their relationship with God. And third, to find and build Godly relationships with other men.

In Christ

ONE SACRED EFFORT
Why give?

The Bible tells us in Deuteronomy 16:17, “Everyone must appear with a gift suited to his means, according to the blessing te Lord your God has given you” (HCSB). As followers of Christ, we are called to give of the blessings we have received to bless others. When we to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, we are helping send and support our missionaries who share Christ's love with the lost and hurting. One hundred percent of the offering is used in this one sacred effort.

Kasey Vannormn: Refined by the fires of suffering and heartache, Kasey is an inspiring example of God’s Grace and intervention in a life that seemed redemption.

Her 2012 breakout book and Bible Study series, Named by God skyrocketed to bestseller status as an inspiring and cutting edge journey into the redemptive power of Jesus. In her book, and when she speaks, Kasey opens up about her past abuse, traumatic rape, promiscuous teen years, her extra marital affair, and attempted suicide, culminating in a heroic rescue by Jesus – pointing to his restoration of her marriage and life.

Along with husband Justin and their two children, Kasey works and lives each day on the largest working rescue ranch in the United States. As a child rescue agent for Still Creek Ranch in Bryan, TX, Kasey helps rescue minors from abuse, neglect and human trafficking. Kasey is a licensed professional counselor with earned degrees in psychology, public speaking, counseling and biblical studies.
